Atomic Effect Studios was asked to create imagery and a site for "Juvies", a riveting look at a world most of us will never see: the world of juvenile offenders who are serving incredible prison sentences for crimes they either did not commit or were only marginally involved in.
For Mark Wahlberg, Juvies, the documentary he exec produced and narrates is personal. Before becoming one of Hollywood's biggest stars, Wahlberg was caught up in the juvenile justice system. He was convicted and sentenced as an adult for assault. With a second chance, he transformed his image from bad boy to rapper, model and actor. He is a passionate supporter of changing the system and also gives back through his foundation.
Through her advocacy work, filmmaker Leslie Neale felt compelled to instigate change in the juvenile justice system. The award-winning Road to Return was her debut as a documentary director. Neale then spent two years teaching a film production class to incarcerated youth in L.A. This led to the making of her latest film, Juvies, which analyzes the impact adult sentencing has on young criminal offenders.
